MEMZEE & THE SWEETNERS
A new up and coming funk/soul band from Bristol led by Memhet Husain – with a new album out soon called MEMZEE AND THE SWEETNERS 'Deep Red Soul' . One of the founders of the underground UK garage scene, Mehmet Hussein (also known as 'The Memzee') grew up in North London on the streets of Tottenham. He would hang around outside gospel churches until he plucked up the courage to go inside. He became part of the Tottenham Gospel Choir. This was a release from the harsh realities of his daily life working in his father's textile factory where he had had to iron hundreds of dresses a day. The respite from this was his mother's sweet singing of songs from their homeland in Northern Cyprus. Now joined by a 13-piece band with horns, drums and backing singers they have in place the funk soul band of the future.
